Smart Alec. A man with a pile of luggage once called the station porter and asked him: “How much is it to have you carry my bags?”
“The first bag is 500 Yen, any further bag will be 200 Yen each.”
“Well then,” said the man. “I’ll carry the first one myself. You take the rest.”

Good stuff mate. But one question; how far do you reckon we are allowed to take it being before an 'interlinear' translation becomes a bad translation??
by saying 'pile of luggage' you're completely ignoring the fact that there's the kanji for mountain there.
John went about the class asking if 'Mountain of luggage' existed in their other languages as it did in English and Japanese, therefore, I recon 'Mountain of luggage' would be better.
Just a hint.
Thanks.
I was doing this translation already before I heard JC's talking so I didn't know about it.
So, do you think I should stick more closely to the original?
