HISTORIQUE

Originaire du Canada, dans l'île de Terre Neuve, où on le nommait "Petit Chien d'Eau" afin de le distinguer de son compatriote le Terre Neuve, plus grand. Ce sont des marins pêcheurs britanniques qui en ramenèrent les premiers sujets en Angleterre, dans le Dorset. Les chasseurs de l'aristocratie l'élevèrent pour en faire un chien d'arrêt. Il est depuis devenu l'un des chiens les plus populaires au monde.

HISTORY

Originates from Canada, from Newfoundland where people called him “small water dog” in order to distinguish him from his larger fellow, the Newfoundland dog. It was British fishermen who brought back the first speciemen to Dorset in Britain. The huntsmen of the British aristocracy bred them for hunting and since then the Labrador Retriever became one of the most popular dogs worldwide.

CARACTÈRE

Intelligent, ardent et docile, il ne demande qu'à faire plaisir. Naturel amicale, sans aucune trace d'agressivité, il ne doit pas non plus se montrer craintif à l'excès.

Intelligent, enthusiastic and docile, wants nothing but to give pleasure. Amicable by nature, without any trace of aggressiveness, also should not be too timid.

DIVERS

Chien très agile. Nez excellent, dent douce. L'eau est son élément de prédilection. Compagnon fidèle, capable de s'adapter partout. Certains sujets ont tendance à la désobéissance.
Durée moyenne de vie : 13 ans.

MISCELLANEOUS

Very agile dog. Excellent nose, smooth teeth. Water is his favourite element. A faithful companion, capable of adapting himself to anything. Some specimen have a tendency towards disobedience.

ASPECT GÉNÉRAL

Fortement charpenté, au rein court, très actif. Le crâne est large.
La poitrine est bien descendue et les côtes bien développées. Le rein et l'arrière-main sont larges et puissants.
Taille : Mâle de 56 à 57 cm. Femelle de 54 à 56 cm.
Poids : De 23 à 34 Kg (Donné ici à titre indicatif).

GENERAL ASPECTS

Big-boned, with a short back, very active. Large skull.
His chest is sloping and his ribs are well-developed. Back and hindquarters are thick and powerful.
Size: Males between 56 and 57 cm. Females between 54 and 56 cm.
Weight: Between 23 and 34 kg (given here as an example).

ROBE

Poil : Il est court et dense, sans ondulations ni franges. Il donne au toucher l'impression d'être passablement rêche. Le sous-poil est résistant aux intempéries.
Couleur : Entièrement noir, jaune ou marron (foie-chocolat). Le jaune va du crème clair au roux (du renard). Une petite tache blanche est admise sur le poitrail.

COAT

Fur: short and dense, without ripples or fringes. Gives the feel of being reasonably rough. The fur situated further down makes him weatherproof.
Colour: Fully black, yellow or maroon (from liver to chocolate coloured). The variety of yellow Labradors goes from a bright cream colour to a reddish fox-like colour. A small blotch of white is acceptable on the chest.

Mâchoires/Dents : Mâchoires de longueur moyenne. Les mâchoires et les dents sont fortes et présentent un articulé en ciseaux parfait, régulier et complet, c'est-à-dire que les incisives supérieures recouvrent les inférieures dans un contact étroit et sont implantées bien d'équerre par rapport aux mâchoires.
Yeux : De dimensions moyennes, exprimant l'intelligence et le bon caractère. De couleur marron ou noisette.
Oreilles : Ni grandes ni lourdes, elles tombent contre la tête et sont attachées plutôt en arrière.

Jaws/Teeth: Jaws of a medium length. Jaws and teeth are strong and form perfect scissors, even and complete.

Ears: Neither big nor heavy, they fall against the head and are attached rather at the back.
